Kidnappers flee with French woman to Somalia
Somali kidnappers have escaped into Somalia with their French hostage hours after a gun battle with Kenyan security forces who were trying to free the elderly and disabled woman, a cabinet minister said. Al Jazeera's Paul Brennan reports.

Video Danish hostages in Somalia Appeal Galkao (Sunatimes) Two Danish hostages held in Somalia for a long time appealed their government and the company owning the ship they board to negotiate with the pirates for their release or they will be in Danger. A video footage released from the hostages shows that the hostages crying and sweeping tears from their eyes and calling the Danish government to pay the pirates and release from them. There are five Filipino crew men who also are with the two Danish and also crying for help, but the pirates masked and armed with heavy machine guns show no mercy for the hostages they hold and horrify them to force their relatives and government to payransom. There is also Danish family held in Somalia which is held at Gumbah village near Hafun district of Puntland region of Somalia and the pirates demanded 5 million dollars for their release. Where do you find Paradise? The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said, Paradise is at the feet of the mother. This is variously interpreted to mean that the mother is responsible for teaching her children their religious obligations and good behavior that will win them Paradise; or it may mean that we earn Paradise by serving our mother throughout her life. Either way, it shows the great esteem, honor and respect that Islam has for mothers. While the fourth Commandment in the Bible is Honor thy father and thy mother, the Bible does not mention the mother separately as deserving good treatment. The Quran, in contrast, gives special recognition to the mothers suffering in bearing and nursing her child: And We have enjoined on man to be good to his parents: In travail upon travail did his mother bear him and in two years was his weaning. Show gratitude to Me and to your parents (31:14). (see themodernreligion.com under women) Women are more psychologically fitted to nurturing, more compassionate and patient Today in the Muslim world, even where many of the precepts of Islam are ignored, Westerners are often amazed at the gentle, loving treatment that parents receive. An Arab proverb says if you want to know how a man will treat his wife, look how he treats his mother. Becoming a mother is one of the greatest joys of a Muslim woman. She knows that her child is both a gift and a trust from God. She carries a great responsibility in raising a family, not only in caring for their physical needs, but also in educating them in their religion and morals. For this and other reasons, Islam calls upon all Muslims, male and female, to be educated, for how can a woman teach her children when she herself is ignorant? Islam also recognizes that, compared to the man, the woman is by nature more psychologically fitted to nurturing, more compassionate and patient. For that reason, Islam decrees that husbands must maintain their wives and children, and it encourages mothers with young children to remain at home with their children rather than work outside the house. And, in case of divorce, custody of young children goes to the mother. All this respect and honor goes to the mother, even if she is a non-Muslim, and also to maternal aunts. Thus the woman does not cut from her own family when she marries, but her children continue to honor the kin relationships of both their mother and father.

KARACHI: PNS Zulfiqar, carrying Captain Wasi along with 22 other hostages released by Somali pirates, have arrived here around 4.20pm, SAMAA reported on Thursday. The 22 people released by Somali pirates reached Dockyard, Karachi after six days of journey by sea. The released hostages include four Pakistanis, 11 Egyptians, six Indians and a Sri Lankan national. Four Pakistanis include Ship Captain Wasi Hasan, Engineer Syyed Alam, Chief Officer Ali Rehman and diesel mechanic Muzzammil. A ceremony will be held in their honor at Governor House. AGENCIES ADD: Pakistan on Thursday welcomed a group of hostages held for 10 months by pirates off the coast of Somalia, after sending a navy vessel to rescue the Egyptians, Indians, Pakistanis and one Sri Lankan. Pakistan helped Egypt to secure the release of the Egyptian-registered boat, Suez, which docked in Oman last week after the ordeal began in August 2010. "Our navy ship PNS Zulfiqar has reached Karachi port along with the 22 crew members of the Egyptian boat," said Pakistan navy spokesman Mohammad Kamran. "We are welcoming them warmly and will keep the foreigners as our guests," he said. A ceremony was conducted to welcome the hostages, with relatives of the four Pakistanis in attendance, the local government said. The other crew includes 11 Egyptians, six Indians and a Sri Lankan.

In a recent incident, Gujarat police captured a foreign fishing boat with 17 men on board at Nandel, a small port near the Junagadh district. An armed Somali pirate along the coastline while the Greek cargo ship, MV Filitsa, is seen anchored just off the shores of Hobyo town in northeastern Somalia. The raid against the Liberian-flagged ship Moscow University came 24 hours after pirates had taken the ship over and the crew locked themselves in a safe room. The 10 pirates were captured last week after seizing a Russian oil tanker but were then unexpectedly released, with Russian officials saying there was insufficient legal basis to keep them in detention and that they would be too expensive to feed. "According to the latest information, the pirates who seized the Moscow University oil tanker failed to reach the shore. Evidently, they have all died," the high-ranking source was quoted as saying by Russia's official news agencies. The source said that radio signals from the boat stopped just one hour after it had been set free by the Russian navy. No details were given over the manner in which they could have lost their lives. Reports have said that after their release the Russian navy put the pirates in a boat some 300 nautical miles offshore, removing all weaponry and navigational equipment from the vessel. "It would have been more humane to have hung them up from the yardarm," a rights activist, whose name was not given, told the Kommersant daily at the weekend.

Western firms profit from Somalia's piracy problem - 09 Sep
Many of the pirates operating off the coast of Somalia were given special forces-style training from Western firms, a special report by Al Jazeera has found. Some security firms currently protecting shipping from the pirates had been engaged to train them a decade ago. One company, Hart Security, coached trainees to be the "coastguard" of Somalia's semi-autonomous Puntland region - providing protection from illegal fishing in the region. In this exclusive report, Al Jazeera's Dan Nolan found that Western companies, involved at all levels of the business, can now expect to make up to half a million dollars from the average $2m "ransom and release" contracts they are awarded to solve.
